Brentford's Irish contingent set to grow - June 26, 2000 Brentford manager Ron Noades must have a slight Irish glint in his eye. When he left Crystal Palace to take over the Second Division club he brought three Irish players (Danny Boxall, Robert Quinn and Anthony Folan) with him and now he is being linked with another one, Neale Fenn. The 23-year-old Tottenham striker is not wanted at White Harte Lane but he is valued at around £350,000 which could be a bit rich for the Noades pocket. If Fenn does sign, Brentford could nearly start with a full Irish-sounding team. Martin Rowlands has also been capped at u21 level for the Irish and there are players such as Richard Kennedy, Gavin Mahon and Kevin O'Connor at the club, all of whom must have some Irish blood in them - as must Noades himself, judging by his signings! Elsewhere in Division Two, Millwall defender Scott Fitzgerald has turned down a one-year contract offer made by the club. It now looks likely that he will sign a month-to-month contract as he tries to get away from the New Den in an attempt to guarantee himself first-team football. |
