Tresson one-two downs Shels - November 30, 2000

Bray Wanderers 3 Shelbourne 0

Bray Wanderers wrapped an elastic band around the top of the Eircom Premier division last night - but not before they'd squeezed themselves into the leading group!

Shelbourne came to the Carlisle Grounds hoping to launch an escape bid and put seven points between themselves and the chasing pack. Instead, the leading clubs are now packed tighter than boobs in a Wonderbra, with just three points separating Shels from fifth-placed Bray - and Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers and Longford Town squeezed in between.

A two-goal salvo from Colm Tresson did the damage. Versatile Tresson, operating on the left side of midfield, opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute, after an Eddie Gormley cross struck Pat Scully on the arm.

And he made sure of the points just three minutes into the second half with a cracking second - swapping passes with Barry O'Connor before tucking the ball under the advancing Steve Williams.

Bray could have gone three-up when Paul Keegan missed a 77th-minute chance - but he made up for it by notching the Seasiders' third two minutes from the end.

That still left time for more Shels misery - Pat Fenlon getting his marching orders in the 89th minute for dissent.

To crown a bad night for the leaders, they lost Richie Baker with a nasty looking ankle injury.
