Bray rescue precious point - October 30, 2000 Bray Wanderers 2 St. Patrick's Athletic 2 Bray made things tough for themselves against St. Pat's at the Carlisle Ground, giving the visitors a two-goal start before rescuing a point with just seven minutes left. The Saints' on-form strikers, Liam Kelly and Ger McCarthy, had the visitors 2-0 to the good after 34 minutes. Kelly's goal, on 25 minutes, was route one. 'Keeper Seamus Kelly punted a free kick up the field and Jody Lynch inexplicably allowed Liam Kelly to get the ball under control and dink it over advancing 'keeper Eddie Van Boxtel before shooting into an empty net.
Nine minutes later Ger McCarthy couldn't
believe his luck when a tame shot made its way unmolested through a
crowded area and into the net. It was Jason Byrne, played in by Kieran O'Brien, who finally bagged Bray's equaliser in the 83rd minute - just in time, because within sixty seconds the Bray striker was off the pitch after a second bookable offence! "You don't give away the sort of presents as we did today and hope to win a game. Those two first half goals conceded were ridiculous," fumed Bray boss, Pat Devlin. "Even then we dominated the second half and should have won the game."
