Bray start well and hang on! - February 24, 2001

Bray Wanderers 2 Galway Utd 1

Bray Wanderers got off to a dream start against Galway United at the Carlisle Grounds - but by the end they were hanging on for dear life as the Tribesmen mounted a determined fightback.

Pip Keogh had the ball in the Galway net after 90 seconds, drilling home Jason Byrne's cross. Galway then had to weather a Bray storm as Byrne first shot narrowly wide and then just over.

But Bobby Ryan got the visitors back into the game with a brilliant individual goal on 28 minutes - skipping past two defenders and beating John Walsh with an inch-prefect chip.

It only took Bray six minutes to restore their lead, however. Colm Tresson burst into the box and was upended by Scott Morgan. Tresson himself scored from the spot.

Bray could have increased their lead early in the second half, but Galway finished strongly. Tresson and Maurice Farrell cleared off the line from Tom Silke and Ollie Neary respectively and Walsh made a great save to deny Billy Clery.
