Bohs back on title track - December 22, 2000
Bohemians 1 Longford Town 0
Bohemians turned in another duffer last night - but they still managed to bag the points to keep themselves in the title race. The Gypsies have temporarily lost their football - but not their resilience.
Mid-season slump or no, they've still managed six points from a possible nine since their defeat to Shelbourne on December 9 - and that's what wins championships.
A lone 27th-minute Tony Hopper strike, completely against the run of play, was enough to hammer another nail into Longford's title challenge. Trevor Molloy, playing wide left, linked with Simon Webb, who picked out Hopper ten yards out.
By then, Bohs could easily have been two down as 'keeper Wayne Russell had already had to save from Stephen Kelly and Keith O'Connor - later to leave the park on a stretcher after a challenge by Kevin Hunt.
Longford continued to have the better of things after the goal, but Robbie Farrell, Stephen Kelly and Stephen Gavin all fired wide and Stuart Byrne's shot came back off the post.
