Byrne saves Bohs with cracker - February 10,
2001
Bohemians 2 Galway United 2
Bohemians fell further behind leaders Shelbourne and relinquished second place to St. Pat's - but it could have been worse, as Galway led until twelve minutes from the end.
Dead-ball specialist Paul Byrne saved Bohs' bacon. Back in the red and black after a short-lived spell as a Saint, Byrne equalised with his first touch in the 78th minute - an amazing 25-yard free kick.
Things were looking well dodgy for the Gypsies by then, because Trevor Molloy had been sent off just a few minutes earlier.
Top scorer Glen Crowe gave Bohs the lead after 23 minutes when he followed up a Mark Rutherford effort to score with a tap-in.
But Galway came back strong and Billy Clery headed home at the back post from Scott Morgan's 36th-minute free kick.
A minute later, teenager Alan Murphy scored what looked like the winner with one of his speciality long-rangers.
