Debut for Mulligan - September 1, 2000 James Mulligan joined Cork City from Finn Harps for a reported £15,000 yesterday and he could be in line for his first start for his new team tonight as they travel to league leaders Bohemians. Mulligan scored 17 goals for Harps last season and Cork manager Derek Mountfield sees him as the answer to their goalscoring woes. Cork have only managed two goals from their last five games which has seen them getting knocked out of the UEFA Cup. Mulligan is in to boost the average. "I wanted a fresh challenge," said Mulligan. "And when I heard that Cork were interested then I was keen to move. The manager here seems to have a good attitude and is very professional. At this stage of my career I just wanted to win things. "I was at Harps for three years and they just didn't seem to improve much. We got to a cup final one year but didn't seem capable of taking it a step further." Bohs are having a great start to the season and a win against Cork would frank their position as title favourites. They easily beat UCD at Belfield last weekend and not a lot of teams can say that. They will have to do without the services of Trevor Molloy tonight because he is at long last serving the suspension which he earned at the end of last season. Dave Hill and Liam O'Brien could face their former team but Roddy Collins' side have serious injury worries. Mark Dempsey is out for at least six weeks with a stress fracture of his shin while Darren O'Keeffe and Shaun Maher are struggling to be fit. |
