Bohs win appeal - January 18, 2001

Bohemians' decision to side-step a rearranged game with St. Patrick's Athletic by lodging an appeal has worked in the Dublin club's favour.

Bohs were ordered to play St. Pat's in the League on the same night they were due to play Ashtown Villa in the Leinster Senior Cup - but right from the start they said they would not fulfil the fixture.

They stuck to their word and lodged an appeal against the FAI saying that proper procedure was not followed.

The FAI appeals committee upheld their claim last night claiming that the 24-hour period allowed for the clubs to rearrange the game had not been adhered to.

Bohs won the battle in the boardroom but they could lose another one. Their bid to sign Mark Rutherford from Newry Town could be blocked by Shelbourne who claim they should have got first refusal on their former player.
