TV goldmine for Bohs - August 29, 2000 Bohemians European adventure could net the club a staggering £300,000 from just one game. Bohs are drawn against German outfit Kaiserslautern in the first round proper of the UEFA Cup and the two clubs have come to an agreement that the first leg should be played in Ireland. This will lead to huge amounts of TV revenue for the game from German broadcasters. Bohs will play Kaiserslautern on Monday, September 11, at Tolka Park, with the return a fortnight later in Germany. If the first leg had taken place in Germany it would have limited the appeal of the second leg in Dublin as everybody expects the Germans to progress easily. Well, everybody except Bohemians! Bohemians secretary Gerry Cuffe is over the moon with the news. He said: "I'm delighted. It's a substantial deal for the club but it is too early at this stage to decide what we are going to invest the money on." Bohs earn their reward after overcoming Scottish Premier side Aberdeen in the preliminary round. Since then though there have been a lot of negative things said by the Scottish side. They have branded Bohs as defensive and lucky to be in the next round. Sour grapes! Aberdeen couldn't score in a brothel and that is why they failed to overcome Roddy Collins side. Even the goal they got at Tolka Park was an own goal, so get over the loss! |
