Molloy fit to face Dons - August 23, 2000

Bohemians striker Trevor Molloy pulled up with a hamstring twinge during training yesterday - but immediately told boss Roddy Collins: "I'll be fit to face Aberdeen".

That's good news for Collins, who looks more and more like having to do without centre back Shaun Maher, his other first-leg goalscorer, for tomorrow night's UEFA Cup second-leg against the Dons.

Maher also broke down in training yesterday -and the prognosis looks much worse.

"We haven't ruled him out yet," Collins said, "but it's not looking good. Shaun is very doubtful but we'll keep working on his back and knee injuries right up until kick-off."

On Molloy, Collins said: "Trevor tells me he'll be fit to play so I've got to believe him."

But St. Pat's manager Pat Dolan believes the Molloy injury is a ruse.

"I used a similar ploy with Trevor against Glasgow Celtic a couple of years ago," Dolan said yesterday. "We faked a hamstring before our Champions League game and it worked. Celtic were taken by surprise by the way Trevor played."

Aberdeen boss Ebbe Skovdahl has even worse injury problems. He has no fewer than twelve players on the missing list - including star striker Eoin Jess.

But Skovdahl can welcome back internationals Derek Whyte and Paul Bernard, who have receovered fitness.
