O'Callaghan out for season - March 13, 2001

Barnsley's Ireland u21 international panellist Brian O'Callaghan will miss the remainder of the season because of a knee injury.

The Limerick-born, former Pike Rovers player sat on the bench for the last three weeks while attempting to rest the recurring tendonitis at the back of his knee, but now discovers that he needs surgery.

Versatile O'Callaghan made his senior competitive debut on the first day of the Nationwide League season against Norwich and has since racked up 32 appearances at left back, right back, central defence and even midfield.

He was rewarded for his displays when Republic of Ireland u21 manager Don Gives called him up for the friendly against Denmark last month - but he was forced to withdraw from the squad because of the injury, even before the game was cancelled.
