Blackburn give Irish youngsters their chance - July 12, 2000 Blackburn Rovers flew out to Germany on Monday for their first pre-season fixtures and Irish u18 internationals Ben Burgess and Peter Murphy were included in the 22-man travelling party. Blackburn play Bahlinger SC on Friday and follow that up with a game against Rastatt 04 AC on Saturday and it is believed that both Irish youngsters will get their chance to show what they are made of. Striker Burgess and defender Murphy look to have a huge future in the game. Both have played regularly for Ireland at underage level and they have starred in Blackburn's Youth and Reserve sides. Rovers manager Graeme Souness has already stated that he intends to give youth a chance to shine next season and David Dunn, Damien Duff, Damien Johnson and Martin Taylor can all expect to feature in the first-team squad on a regular basis once again next campaign. |
