Athlone win in extra time - January 8, 2001

Athlone Town 1 Home Farm Fingal 0 (aet)

It took an extra-time, extra-special winner from former Manchester United starlet Eric Molloy finally to separate these first-division rivals, who drew on Thursday night at Whitehall and replayed yesterday at St. Mel's.

Home Farm were again the better side but they could do nothing about Molloy's screaming shot - a real bolt from the blue, driven from well out in midfield.

Farm couldn't do anything either about the superb form of Athlone 'keeper Gary Connaughton, the hero on the drawn game, who again kept his side alive time after time.

Connaughton made a brilliant save from Richie Parsons early in the second half and then raced from his line to deny Alban Hysa in the 71st minute.
