Irish on the mark - November 8, 2000 Irish players got among the goals in the handful of Nationwide League games played last night. Sheffield Wednesday's Alan Quinn hit the winner as Watford's unbeaten run finally came to an end in Nationwide division one. Quinn popped up with an 83rd-minute strike - his third of the season - to clinch a 3-1 win for the Owls. In division two, a Keith O'Halloran penalty rescued a point for Swindon at home to Wrexham. Chalk put the Welsh side ahead in the first minute of the game, before Invicible equalised. But Edwards restored Wrexham's lead on 68 minutes and it took the Irishman's spot kick on the three-quarter mark to restore parity. Senior international Graham Kavanagh opened the scoring as Stoke earned a 2-2 draw at Northampton. Jamie Forrester equalised within three minutes but Irish u21 international midfielder James O'Connor put the Potters back in front on 24 minutes, with his sixth goal of the season. But Davey Savage's Northampton salvaged a point with a Steve Howard goal on the stroke of half time. |
