Ampadu signs for Exeter City - July 3, 2000 Former Belvedere Boy Kwame Ampadu has joined Third Division Exeter City on a free transfer. The 29-year-old defender was released by Leyton Orient at the end of last season but did not spend long in the footballing wilderness. Ampadu, who was capped for Ireland at underage level, started his professional career at Arsenal but after making only two appearances for the Gunners he was farmed out to Plymouth and then West Brom. He impressed at West Brom which led to a permanent move to the Hawthorns where he went on to play 42 league games, scoring three goals. He then moved to Swansea City and was a firm favourite at the Vetch Field - playing over 150 times for the Welsh Club. It came somewhat of a surprise when Swansea released him in 1998 but he was picked up straight away by Leyton Orient. He played two seasons for Orient before being released. He will now be hoping for better fortune with Exeter. |
