Lee bounces back: Nationwide round-up - March 7, 2001

Alan Lee, Rotherham's young Galway-born striker, bounced back from his sending off at the weekend by scoring the opener in his club's 3-1 win over Bournemouth last night. Lee was among a number of Irish goalscorers which also included Northampton's Dave Savage, Lincoln City's Peter Gain - and Oldham goalkeeper Gary Kelly!

Lee got his marching orders against Reading at the weekend after picking up two yellow cards within a couple minutes in injury time. But last night he struck with a crucial goal to give Rotherham the lead in a potentially tricky assignment against the Cherries.

It was the Ireland u21 international's twelfth of the season and it left the Millers well placed to secure promotion to division one.

Senior Republic of Ireland international Dave Savage struck from the spot - his third penalty in as many games - to give Northampton the lead in a 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers; while Lincoln's Peter Gain scored the middle of three in a 3-1 win at Kidderminster.

It was a memorable nigh for the wrong reasons for Oldham 'keeper Gary Kelly - brother of current senior panellist Alan. He contrived to punch a Gary Alexander cross into his own net in the eighth minute of the Latics' game at Swindon. It was just the start Swindon needed and they went on to win 3-0.

Oldham sorely missed former Republic of Ireland international John Sheridan - out for the second consecutive match with a calf injury.
