Lee gets marching orders: Nationwide round-up - March 5, 2001
It was a weekend to rue for Rotherham's Galway-born striker Alan Lee. The Republic of Ireland u21 international got himself sent off in injury time in the Millers' 2-0 defeat at Reading.
Lee got his marching orders after appearing to elbow Adrian Whitbread and could find himself hit with a longer-than-statutory ban.
Other Irish players in bother with referees in the Nationwide at the weekend included Colchester duo Barry Conlon and Scott Fitzgerald, who both picked up yellow cards in a 3-1 defeat at Stoke.
Lincoln City's Peter Gain also went in the ref's notebook during a 3-2 win away to Mansfield Town.
Irish goals were few and far between in the lower leagues. Stoke's senior Irish international midfielder Graham Kavanagh grabbed his third goal of the season and Stoke's third of the game in that win over Colchester.
And Alan Reilly, in a rare start for Halifax, notched his first ever senior goal. The 20-year-old Dublin-born midfielder was making just his 13th appearance this term for the Shaymen, but saw his side lose 2-1 at Shrewsbury.
