Lee lights up Millmoor - November 24, 2000

Rotherham's signing of Galway-born Alan Lee could mean the difference between being also-rans and promotion contenders for the Second Division club.

Since his arrival at Millmoor, Rotherham have been only beaten once - which has seen them shoot up the table to fourth, just three points behind leaders Wigan.

The 22-year-old striker, who started with Aston Villa before moving to Burnley and then Rotherham, was such a favourite while on loan that when the club decided to try to sign him the fans helped the cause.

Lee cost a club record £150,000 of which a large chunk was raised by the fans through their Alan Lee Appeal Fund.

Their efforts are being rewarded already. Lee only scored one goal from nine games while on loan but since he signed he has scored in both games so far. He was involved in all three goals two weeks ago against Brentford and scored the only goal of the game last weekend to advance Rotherham into the second round of the FA Cup at the expense of Wrexham.
