No bids for Quinn state Wednesday - September 27, 2000

Sheffield Wednesday are getting sick and tired of their best player being linked with every team in the Premiership and they have angrily denied that they have received any bids for Dubliner Alan Quinn.

It had been claimed that Coventry had tabled a £2.5m bid for the talented midfielder but Wednesday say no such bid was ever made.

While Wednesday are in financial ruin they are very reluctant to sell Quinn. The player decided to sign an extension to his contract after the club got relegated and is seen as a future captain of the struggling club.

Wednesday have players at the club who are turning up and earning massive wages without putting in the effort but the same could not be said about Quinn. The Irish u21 international never stops trying for the Wednesday cause and the club officials recognise this.

During the summer Quinn was linked with both Everton and Tottenham and now Coventry seem to be in the picture.

The more pressure comes on the club from the bigger boys in the Premiership, the harder it is going to be to hold onto their prized asset - but at the moment they are adamant that he is not for sale.

"We have had no bid for Alan Quinn from anywhere and we are not encouraging any," said Wednesday spokesman Steve Chu.

Quinn also denied that any offer was made for his services. He said: "I read the reports but there's absolutely no truth to them - I've heard nothing from my boss and don't expect to."
