Lee stakes claim for league start - August 30, 2000

Former Aston Villa striker Alan Lee did his claims for a starting place in Burnley's side to face Crewe on Saturday no harm at all as he scored two goals in a 4-3 reserve win over Huddersfield during the week.

Burnley trailed 3-1 at the McAlpine Stadium when Lee fired into action with a double salvo to pull things level. And an Andrew Leefos goal late on sealed the win for the visitors.

Burnley have taken well to life in Division One. After winning promotion last season it was thought that they would not be strong enough for football in the higher league - but so far things have gone as well as could be expected, with only one defeat out of the four games to date.

Lee has not figured in the first team at all but his showing against Huddersfield must certainly give him a chance of at least making the bench on Saturday.
