Yankee rumours link Kelly with Leicester - September 12, 2000

Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Alan Kelly is being linked with a move to Premiership Leicester, making room for Brad Friedel to move to Blackburn, according to reports in the American media.

It is reported that Leicester have made a bid for Kelly but it is still not clear whether there is any truth in the rumour.

USA international Friedel is still on the books of Liverpool but it is believed that he needs a new work permit - which would be made available to him if he signed for Rovers. He has played for Rovers boss Graeme Souness before at Galatasaray and knows him well.

What makes the story a bit unbelievable is that Alan Kelly is No.1 at Blackburn at the moment after beating off the challenge of John Filan - but if he moved to Leicester he would be lucky to get a game because he would not displace Tim Flowers.
