David Greene, the man that Paul McGrath tipped as his replacement in the centre of the Irish defence, has seen his career stagnating at Colchester since they paid Luton £30,000 for him in 1996. At the end of the last campaign he was released by the club and this seems to have done him a favour. He is now close to signing a deal with Wrexham - a more competitive Division Two team than Colchester.
